A splash of colour

A splash of colour in the workshop this week courtesy of some vibrant ‘Sapele’ timber.

A customer requested one of our ever popular coat stands in a bespoke mahogany finish, for which we recommended using Sapele, a far more sustainable timber with a very similar colour and grain to Mahogany. Sapele timber is characterised by its heavy strength and durability, interlocked grain and natural lustre with a distinctive red-brown colour that darkens as it matures and ages. A treat to work with, I love the way the colour pops once the finishing coats of Osmo oil go on.
