Boot and what?

A little about us

Established in 2006 by myself, Tristan Harris, a ‘Sustainable 3D Design’ graduate of University College Falmouth, with no more than a collection of ideas and borrowed tools. Over the years Boot & Saw has grown into a range of beautifully simple products with quality at the forefront. From boot stands and welly racks to hat stands and bespoke contemporary furniture, all Boot & Saw products are designed and hand crafted in-house by myself.

Since the beginning, Boot&Saw has been based in the town of Redruth, Cornwall as part of the creative hub that is ‘Krowji’, once the towns old grammar school. Our workshop has grown as the business has and we are able to produce pretty much anything you might want out of wood.

Sustainability has always been at the forefront of what I do and each aspect of the business considered to reduce it's impact on the environment, not least our sourcing of our timbers which are all FSC approved timbers from managed forests. We also own half of ‘Harris’ Waterproof footwear and are an official retailer for Aigle Wellingtons to compliment the footwear storage range.

Our niche

Our first product was a simple welly rack and our range has grown over the years to offer all kinds of wooden products to organise and store your shoes, wellingtons, coats and more.

We are sure to have something to tidy that pile of boots in your porch, shoes in the kitchen or even surboards in the hallway. Choose from a variety of shoe, boot or welly racks, in a range of sizes in solid Oak and Pine, from that basic floor standing boot rack to our beautiful Oak Shoe Bench, and if you can't find a size that works for your space, just ask and we can tailor most products to suit your needs.

A true cottage business with a personal touch, all of our wooden products are hand-crafted and sent straight from our workshop here in Cornwall.

Background

We have a background in furniture design which comes through in all we design and make. From the simplest of boot stands to high-end commissioned furniture, our eye for detail is cast over everything, meaning you get the best quality product available with a real handmade finish.

Sustainability

An key part of Boot & Saw and something we are passionate about. We only use FSC approved timber from managed sources, all our packaging is reclaimed or recycled and we try to use local suppliers whenever possible. Even our sawdust is reused. We strive to make as little environmental impact as possible and are moving to being a carbon neutral company.

The Krowji 1907 Building

Krowji

We moved into the Old Grammar School back in 2006. Now known as ‘Krowji’, it is Cornwall’s largest creative hub, providing studios, workspaces and offices for a wide range of vibrant creative industries and is also home to Stones Cafe. It’s the perfect creative environment for us to be based. Unfortunatley, as we are a busy workshop, Boot & Saw is not open to visitors.

Packaging

90% of our packaging is recycled. Packaging has a very short lifespan which is terrible for the environment. We collect sturdy boxes from local businesses and re-use the best of them to send out our products. Not only is this good for the environment but it keeps cost down, which means you don’t have to pay so much for shipping.

Waste

Our sawdust is used by a local farmer for animal bedding and the few wooden off-cuts we can't use are sold on to keen amateur woodworkers or used to heat the homes of fellow Krowji tenants. Nothing is left to waste here at Boot & Saw and we are working towards being a totally carbon neutral business.

Commissions

We often make one-off pieces, from tables to sword stands. As most items in our shop are made to order we can tweak things to suit your needs too. If you would like to commission a piece of furniture or simply want a custom wellington stand to fit in that awkward space, we’ll be happy to help.

PINE

OUR BASIC RANGE

Boot & Saw only use the best quality European Redwood Pine. We hand select our timber which is sourced from FSC approved, managed forests and is slow grown for a denser grain. Designed and hand made in house, our Pine products are built to last using solid timber and quality joinery, without breaking the bank. The Boot & Saw ‘Basic Range’ of Pine products are perfect for everyday use and are supplied finished with high quality durable Yacht varnish. Simple, sturdy and perfect for everyday use.

OAK

OUR PREMIUM RANGE

Boot & Saw only use European Oak sourced from FSC approved, managed forests. Our Premium Oak Range of products are designed and hand made in house from hand selected Oak boards featuring a beautiful grain and colour. Oak is a robust wood, durable and well suited to the abuse of day to day use and even use outside. This makes it perfect for our welly stands and boot racks. It also means it will last for years and add a stunning feature to your home. If you want the best available, Oak is it.
